The sad news that at least 31 people have been killed in the Brussels attacks, and dozens injured in attacks at Brussels international airport and a city metro station is a wake up call for Britain to leave the EU.
We need to wake up to the real dangers that staying in the EU pose to the security of our nation. Staying in the EU leave us our borders vulnerable to harmful intrusion by extremists who are intent on inflicting harvoc and danger to our shores.
Fast circulating news of blasts that hit Zaventem airport at about 07:00 GMT, killing 11 people. and another explosion that struck Maelbeek metro station near the EU’s headquarters an hour later, killing another 20 people is a shocking reminder of the scale of our enmity with dangerous terrorists all over the world.
The Islamic State (IS) group has shamefully admitted being behind the attacks in a statement issued on the IS-linked Amaq agency.
The bombings have been viewed world wide as retaliation for the capture of Salah Abdeslam four days ago. Abdeslam was the the main fugitive in the Paris attacks, but was captured in Brussels last Saturday.
.
Belgium has now raised its terrorism alert to its highest level and three days of national mourning has now been declared. Reports from the security services in the UK reveal that over 7 attacks planned for Britain has been foiled and much credit and thumbs up to them for their diligence and expertise in protecting us. However, the more open we are to these evil people, the more likely some of them will eventually slip the net and escape detection before they attack.
SOLIDARITY
Prime Minister Charles Michel called the latest attacks “blind, violent and cowardly”, adding: “This is a day of tragedy, a black day… I would like to call on everyone to show calmness and solidarity”.
One necessary level of solidarity Britain really needs now is a united front to leave the EU. The eye of media.com as a publication is not adopting a united front on this because of the decision from our editorial to allow open discussion and debate on this crucial topic. That’s fair enough, though my view is that Britain should leave the EU. We have the economic might and political influence to trade with a number of prosperous nations and still thrive without the EU. The advantages of leaving the EU outweighs the disadvantages.
An intutive common sense fact is that any country that has no control over its boarder is vulnerable to a lot more terrorist attacks than one that has control.
BENEFITS
Joining the EU has had its benefits over the years, particularly in the area of free trade and freedom of movements. However, the appalling failure of our government to effectively control immigration poses a very high risk to the citizens of this country, and one that needs to be restricted as a matter of urgency.
Donald Tusk, European Council President Donald Tusk said: “These attacks mark another low by the terrorists in the service of hatred and violence.”
.The Brussel attacks have badly impacted the airport and the entire public transport system in Brussels are closed, although some train stations are due to reopen shortly. The Brussel attacks is a scary wake up call for this country to leave the EU.
