Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a general election for July 4, urging the nation to “choose its future” in a pivotal moment for British politics.
Speaking in the pouring rain outside Downing Street, Sunak revealed he had met with the King to request the dissolution of parliament, a request that was granted, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle.

This unexpected move represents a significant gamble for Sunak and the Conservative Party, who are trailing Labour by approximately 20 points in recent polls.
The decision comes on the heels of a string of local election defeats for the Conservatives, intensifying the pressure on Sunak to reverse his party’s fortunes.
“The King has granted this request and we will have a general election on the 4th of July,” Sunak declared, acknowledging the challenging political landscape.
