British Government Considers More Radical Action To Control Virus Spread

The  British government is considering radical action to control the spread of the coronavirus.  It follows news that the virus is spreading nationwide. The government’s chief adviser also predicted a national outbreak. 

Insiders at the BBC are predicting that a ”circuit break” could be introduced to avoid a national outbreak of the virus as predicted by Uk scientists on Wednesday.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has told the BBC the government is “prepared to do what it takes” against Covid-19.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the health secretary express concern that in the number of coronavirus cases in the last couple of weeks are increasing, and the number of people admitted to hospital with coronavirus was doubling about every eight days.

He stressed it was “critical” that people follow social distancing guidelines and local lockdown rules – where they apply.

“If we do all these things, we can avoid having to take serious further measures,” he told the programme.

Uk scientists are predicting a significant number of deaths by the end of October if there were no further interventions.

One SAGE scientist reportedly said that if the R number continues at the same rate, it would “break the NHS”.

The possible measures being discussed include asking some hospitality businesses to close, or limiting the opening hours of some pubs and restaurants nationwide.

Downing Street is also said to be considering the possibility of limiting the opening hours of pubs and restaurants across the country, as has already happened in some areas.
