A British army officer was cleared of raping a drunk girl yesterday.
Lt Col Benedict Tomkins was accused of raping a woman in Africa after a UN meeting. The officer claimed the sex was consensual, but the girl argued she was too drunk to consent to sex despite flirting with him in a hotel bar in Kampala, Uganda in 2015.
Both the complainant and defendant had drunk about five glasses of red wine at dinner topped with a vodka and tonic and she also drank a fun and tonic, after which they both went upstairs to her room to prepare a presentation.
That plan for a presentation developed into a passionate night of sex . The girls claim to have been drunk is as nonsensical as a thief stealing from a shopand claiming to have been drunk. The fact is the woman consented to it regardless of her stupid claim to be drunk.
The acquittal was justified, and the woman whose identity was banned from being revealed, should really be ashamed of herself. It is strange when a woman courts a man in flirting and drinking, ends up in his or her bed, then cries rape!
Her own morality and dignity is actually what is to be questioned , especially when we are talking about an adult if age.An excuse of being drunk should never be taken seriously by the police, who should be expected to tell a genuine allegation of take from a feeble and illegitimate one.
He must count himself lucky to have escaped injustice , and the decision if the jury was definitely right and fair.
