Authorities in Edinburgh are on high alert after a prisoner, Jamie Ross, (pictured)managed to escape from guards while attending a funeral on Tuesday, April 23rd. Ross, 29, exploited the opportunity of being let out on day release to vanish from custody, sparking a city-wide manhunt.
Ross was last spotted near the Cameron Toll shopping center in Edinburgh around 12:28 pm. Described as white, 5ft 9in tall, with dark hair, blue eyes, and distinctive bushy eyebrows, he also bears a tattoo on his right hand that reads “Dad.” At the time of his escape, Ross was dressed in a black puffer jacket, dark trousers, and grey trainers.
According to reports, Ross managed to slip his handcuffs and disappear at the conclusion of the funeral, leaving authorities scrambling to locate him.
Police caution that he should not be approached, emphasizing the need for public vigilance in reporting any sightings.
Ross’s connections across Edinburgh and in Aberdeen heighten concerns about his potential whereabouts, complicating efforts to apprehend him. Despite the ongoing manhunt, authorities remain determined to bring Ross back into custody swiftly.
The prisoner transportation service, GEOAmey, expressed disappointment over Ross’s exploitation of compassionate leave for personal gain.
While day release for compassionate reasons, such as attending funerals, is permitted under Scottish Prison Service rules, Ross’s escape underscores the challenges faced by authorities in balancing compassion with security measures.
Chief Inspector Mark Hamilton of Police Scotland assured the public that extensive inquiries are underway, with specialized officers lending their support to the search efforts.
Additionally, collaboration between the Scottish Police Service and Police Scotland aims to expedite Ross’s return to custody.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Jamie Ross’s whereabouts to come forward immediately. With public cooperation and vigilant observation, law enforcement hopes to swiftly locate and apprehend Ross, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
