A senior British Army officer has been charged with sexually assaulting a female military officer in Canada.
British army officer Lt-Col Davies, of Newport, Gwent in Wales, is charged with sexually assaulting a 52-year-old female soldier following a night out. The official charge means Ontario police believe they have enough evidence to secure a conviction in court.
COMMEMORATIONS FOR WORLD WAR 1
The assault allegedly committed by the senior British Officer occurred at Fort Frontenac, in Kingston, following commemorations for the World War One Battle of Vimy Ridge, on April 9, Ontario police said.
The alleged victim who is also an officer with the Canadian military had attended a military function at the fort, which is located around 150 miles from Toronto, not far from the border with New York state.
After attending a bar with other guests, including Lt-Col Davies, before returning to the barracks where she continued drinking with other guests.
Police say she reported the sexual in the early hours of the next day.
Lt-Col Davies, who was in Canada on a temporary posting, has been bailed to appear in court on September 15, after he was charged on Tuesday.
Police collected evidence from the scene, and Lt-Col Davies was formally charged following the results of forensic tests. The charge against the senior British Army Officer, is a further stain on the reputation of British military officers, who in past times have committed several atrocities including bullying and torture, physical assaults, and sexual assaults. Several assaults of British army officers have taking place in Britain and abroad, including Iraq, Afghanistan, and certain parts of Africa. Guilty officers are a disgrace to the force, and will never be allowed to return to the military.
Officers, especially those in a position of seniority, have a duty to conduct themselves with dignity and integrity, and also set examples for their colleagues to emulate. Instead, many of them collude with other depraved officers in committing atrocities.
Davies, a married man, was released and ordered to surrender his passport. He is also barred from leaving Ontario.
In 2014, Davies led the now disbanded 3rd Battalion the Mercian Regiment on a nine-month-long tour of Afghanistan, during which one of the men under his command,Sergeant Major Ian Fisher, was killed by a suicide bomber.
Lt-Col Davies was on a three-year secondment as a Canadian Staff College instructor when the assault is alleged to have taken place.
A statement from Ontario police read:
“On August 2 the accused attended police headquarters and was arrested by detectives for one count of sexual assault.”
British army officers are known to have committed several atrocities in the past. This includes bullying, physical assault, and sexual assault. The latest allegation is bad for the reputation of the British army.
A spokesman for the Army said: “We are aware of an investigation being conducted by Kingston Police into an alleged incident that took place in April this year involving a serving British Army officer.
“As the case is subjudice it would be inappropriate to make any comment.”
That’s rubbish, because if the spokesperson believed the allegation to be false, they would be at liberty to state that they believe it to be malicious and wholly untrue. Just because the case is due for court does not prevent an official statement denying it. The statement shows that the spokesperson does not feel confident enough to condemn the police charge as one that is flawed.
