The government is due to review lockdown measures on Thursday, though the prime minister said it would be an “economic disaster” to relax the lockdown in a way which triggered a second spike in coronavirus cases. It is believed the lockdown will be eased in phases  in line with scientific advice, but the government  is set to clarify its steps tomorrow.

Pressure for the lockdown to be eased has been rising from  ministers in the prime minister’s own party and business owners, but  Mr Johnson and his team have several times stressed the importance of avoiding a second spike,  replied: “Yes, he’s right that capacity currently exceeds demand, we’re working on that, we’re running at about 100,000 a day, but the ambition clearly is to get up to 200,000 a day by the end of this month and then to go even higher.”
