Boris Johnson has stated that he will not rule out a lockdown if necessary whilst not going for one before Christmas.
The prime minister has been under pressure from all angles to impose the UK’s fourth national lockdown in the face of the spreading Omicron variant .
Johnson said: ”we will have to reserve the possibility of taking further action to protect the public and to protect public health, to protect the NHS,” he said. “We won’t hesitate to take that action.”
Asked about what types of restrictions could be reimplemented, he said: “We are looking at all kinds of things to keep omicron under control and we will rule nothing out.”
when asked why he was not introducing further restrictions now, he said that there are “still some things that we need to be clearer about before we decide to go further”.
He added that the arguments for taking action in the face of the spread of omicron are “very, very finely balanced”.
Infection rates have risen in the Uk multiple fold, with scientists calling for a circuit breaker.
However, a medical expert today claimed that the Nhs isn’t overwhelmed, and that most of the infections seen by Gps are respiratory problems normally seen this time of year .
The introduction of a national lockdown will need to evidence that the spread of the omicron virus is leading to substantial hospitalisations and death, a scenario that is not yet played out.
Modelling presented by scientists has been criticised for failing to consider evidence from South Africa that is showing Omicron is causing fewer deaths and hospitalisations even among the oldest and most vulnerable than previous versions of the virus.
Professor Carl Hennegan revealed in an article for the Daily Mail that a great deal of the apparent rise in Covid cases is actually tied to a major increase in the amount of testing. On December 7, Britain conducted roughly one million tests. By December 15, this had risen to 1.63 million – a rise of nearly two-thirds in eight days. He revealed that the true infection rate as judged by the PCR testing system has remained largely constant.
The professor also revealed that a great deal of the apparent rise in Covid cases is actually tied to a major increase in the amount of testing. He said that on December 7, Britain conducted roughly one million tests, adding that by December 15, this had risen to 1.63 million – a rise of nearly two-thirds in eight days.
The British public is fed up of deceptive tactics used to disrupt their lives , and need to be able to trust the government and its scientists to have their best interests at heart .
Necessary intervention by the prime minister will require the Nhs being overwhelmed with patients hospitalised by the Omicron variant, with an urgent need for a circuit breaker.
This will have to be based on hard facts , not the wishes of power hungry scientists, wishing to press buttons to suit their ego or the desires of influential people behind them in the shadows.
Wes Streeting, the shadow health secretary, accused Johnson of being “scared of his backbenchers”. Streeting suggested the government should be following the example of the Labour administration in Cardiff, which has already announced that further restrictions will come into force in Wales after Christmas.
However, Streeting fell short of of explaining that Johnson’s backbenchers were right in opposing a lockdown brought on the back of leaked parties that took place last Christmas during lockdown period, which made the timing of the prime minister’s announcement for covid passports within a 24 hour period, very suspicious.
