A leaked government suggests Boris Johnson’s plan for says that high levels of checks and controls as a result of boarder checks between the Uk and Ireland will create huge and legal problems that could pose problems for Johnson’s Brexit deal.
The document says the British government will struggle to deliver the infrastructure and staffing needed by that deadline.” Its release has caused anger in the DUP, with its leader, Arlene Foster, insisting that Mr Johnson “broke [his] word” after promising there would be no checks between Great Britain and Northern Ireland after Brexit . The document seen by both the BBC and high officials in Whitehall seems to cast doubt on the safety of the arrangements, and may call for a closer examination of what it would mean for the Uk.
Its release during campaign time so close to the Uk elections suggests that those who leaked it want the British public to consider whether they want to vote for a government that could create problems for the British people if they are being misled into believing outcomes that are not real. Johnson remains ahead of Labour in the polls, though its gap has been narrowing in the last week.
