A Birmingham father has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his two young children who died in a house fire in Birmingham.
46-year-old Mohammed Endris was arrested on Thursday morning after Tragic 8-year-old Saros Endris and his sister Leanor Endris, six, died following the “suspicious” fire at a home in Holland Road, Hamstead. Mohammed Endris has denied murder, and the court case will reveal more.
Firefighters were called to the property in the early hours of October 28 , and Mohammed Endris was found with life-threatening injuries in a fire-damaged car in Staffordshire several hours later.
Endris may have been trying to commit suicide by setting his car alight, but was saved, making him useful for questioning, and potentially, to be brought to justice. The mother of the children, Penil Teklehaimamot, 36, was uninjured and is being treated as a witness, not a suspect.
Serious
The allegation of murder is serious and draws attention to the sort of serious hatred some parents can have for their children. Children can be a nightmare to raise, but when they are that young, the responsibility is always on the parents to implement the necessary procedures to properly train those children up and handle any issues they have with the child.
An inquest heard that the children died of inhalation and also suffered burns to their bodies. It remains strange why both parents survived, but the children died. Police also investigated the mother but concluded that the individual with a motive to kill the children was Mohammed Edris.
Police have said nothing about the evidence they have from which they suspect the father of murder because they believe it could compromise the court case.
