Better Education is the answer to the spate of UK knife and gun crimes, the eye of media.com believes.
Research shows that most of the criminals guilty of knife and gun crimes in the UK is due to lack of good education.
An overwhelming number of those who commit knife and gun crime in the UK are drop outs. They lack good education and find comfort in gangs where members generally lack education. This is the same in most parts of the world. America probably is one of those few countries where we find some college and university students killing people.
This is because America is a much bigger country with more crazy people there. However, educated killers are a tiny minority of those who go on to kill. This because the forces of provocation there are so vast and different. Also, many people including young students carry guns for protection and more often that not may act out of feeling threatened themselves or a foresight that they may be killed if they don’t kill first.
This sad reality has been a catalyst for many of the murders there. In other situations, the compiled strain of prolonged anger or rejection has taken their toll on many of them. An American friend of mine shed light on this to me recently during a skype conversation. He told me how many people in America know somebody who has been shot dead, either a friend or a family member.
This has taken its toll on the psyche of many individuals. It becomes similar to post-traumatic stress , where the psychological experience of tragic misfortunes makes some of these guys go over the edge and use the gun in their pocket once something drives them mad. Arguments in America are a much more dangerous affair than in the U.K.
In the U.K, the problem is much different. Many youths lack drive and ambition. Contrary to what we would like to believe, many public schools lack serious students or a sufficiently studious environment to keep most students motivated. There are many good public schools in the U.K, especially those that are academies. However, there are more unserious ones with under skilled teachers, and children from unstable homes and uneducated parents.
Unserious students find refuge in the company of their unmotivated and unacademic peers. Education plays a big role in the mindset and the tendencies of teenagers. This is why Theresa May’s vision for more academies and grammar schools should be encouraged and not criticised. It shapes the values and goals of students.
Education influences the way people resolve disputes because it affects how they reason. Education gives them a drive and puts them off prison. Those without education easily see prison as a holiday resort. Good education should start from primary school so that children have a strong work ethic. It needs to be taken seriously.
News of a boy stabbed to death over a bicycle in the summer, then the news of a gun murder in Kilburn last night are few examples of this. Why does this keep happening? The man carrying the gun would not be doing so if he had a solid education with ambitions. He would have a more responsible response to whatever has annoyed him to make him want to use a gun. He wouldn’t have a gun in the first place if he was the serious and ambitious type in school.
The eye of media.com is committed to a higher and more serious level of education in all public schools in the U.K, and believe Theresa May should be fully supported in her vision to improve education in every way she can. It will make our streets safer in the years ahead.
