A police officer was stabbed while responding to reports of a man wielding a knife in Mandeville Road at approximately 4:30 pm.
The officer, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained serious injuries to his shoulder during the confrontation.
According to eyewitnesses, other law enforcement personnel swiftly intervened, disarming and detaining the assailant. Additionally, they administered crucial first aid to their injured colleague, employing a tourniquet to stem the bleeding before he was rushed to the hospital.
The injured officer is currently hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition, though the extent of his injuries remains a concern.
The swift and decisive action of the police led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder at the scene. Authorities have confirmed the confiscation of a knife believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
Assistant Commissioner Matt Jukes commended the injured officer’s valour and selflessness, noting his reluctance to focus on his own actions but rather to commend the professionalism of his colleagues who provided vital assistance amidst the chaos.
Assistant Commissioner Jukes, who visited the wounded officer in hospital, remarked, “He didn’t want to talk about his own actions but to praise the professionalism of the police medic and other colleagues who provided him with vital first aid, and arrested the suspect.
He was in good spirits and spoke with pride about the work his team do, protecting Londoners. And yesterday, he did just that – stepped forward to put himself between the public and a clearly dangerous individual.”
The incident has prompted an ongoing investigation by authorities, with the Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards duly informed about the matter.
Assistant Commissioner Jukes emphasized the swift response of law enforcement and assured the public that every effort is being made to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
