Amazon is launching its own line of workout clothes, the eye of media.com has heard.
The U.S based retailer has launched a series of private-label clothing lines in the last 12 months, now supplementing an athletic wear to the list, Recode reporting.
Amazon has posted advertisements on job boards highlighting their search for brand managers with a “passion for sport, athletes” who can help it “build authentic activewear private label brands that have compelling and unique DNA and deliver amazing consumer-valued innovation.”
The clothing lines aim to add a new dimension to the private-label clothing brands Amazon launched last year.
Estimates estimate its membership in Amazon’s Prime service at more than 63 million. With a large customer base, Amazon doesn’t need to build a customer base, Amazon is capitalising on their past success and their brand mane which has spread wide, not only in America, but all over the world.
This is Amazon’s ninth private clothing brand. Buttoned Down, sells men’s dress shirts starting at $39. Amazon’s Prime members are the only beneficiaries Other brands include low-cost clothing for women and kids. The giant company, which also serve as publishers of books, is one of the richest online outlets, its potential for growth almost infinite in scale.
The new athletic line could allow Amazon to tap into the lucrative activewear market in which others like Lululemon have seen success. But as Recode notes, the market may be getting saturated, data suggests.
