Alabama Senate candidate, Roy Moore under fire for alleged sexual misconduct with teenage girls when he was in his 30s, believes America was a better place when slavery was still legal.
Recent revelation that Moore believes America was great during slavery emerged on Friday after a tweet was sent. At a campaign event earlier this year, an audience member asked Moore for his opinion on when the last time America was “great.” Moore responded: “I think it was great at the time when families were united—even though we had slavery—they cared for one another. Our families were strong, our country had a direction.”
The individual who asked the question was reportedly one of the only African-Americans in attendance at the rally.
Although Moore’s awful remarks were featured in an article from the Los Angeles Times in September , many members of the public never heard about it. It resurfaced Thursday in a viral tweet from Eric Columbus, a former Obama administration official. “Can’t make this up—Roy Moore said in September that the last time America was great was when we had slavery,” Columbus tweeted.
President Trump has endorsed Moore’s candidature, despite widespread uproar, and the damning allegations facing the Senate candidate. Trump has been quoted as saying “Go get ‘em, Roy!” during a recent phone call with the candidate. It is not absolutely clear what he meant, but many have concluded the U.S president could only have meant one thing.
Moore’s Democratic opponent, Doug Jones is leading Moore in the polls , but polls are just a reliable as politicians or the unsteady British weather. If Moore thinks slavery was a positive contributor to America’s greatness, then he poses an infinitely great danger to the philosophical mindset of Americans. Having a senate with antidemocratic ideologies motivated by segregationist beliefs will be dangerously regressive for the great nation of America. America’s greatness must be based on our diversity, phenomenal brains and vision, and the notion that any legal citizen of America can experience the American dream.
WEAKNESSES
Our human weaknesses and division maybe potentially debilitating, but every citizen of this country with determination, drive, and hardwork can live the American dream. That’s what makes America great. The fact the massive land of America and its widely different types of human beings provides a guarantee of a wide pool of geniuses and inventive people who make and break records. The history of slavery doesn’t make America great. Slavery is a sad reminder that great minded people with selfish motives invaded many parts of the world in order to explore the great natural resources the people were not maximising. Those great minds where capitalist in nature but made a historical mistake about which their descendants-those descent ones have long admitted was an error of judgment.
On December 4, Trump tweeted, “Putting Pelosi/Schumer Liberal Puppet Jones into office in Alabama would hurt our great Republican Agenda of low on taxes, tough on crime, strong on military and borders…& so much more. Look at your 401-k’s since Election. Highest Stock Market EVER! Jobs are roaring back!” Indeed, Trump apparently believes a man who was reportedly banned from an Alabama mall for harassing teenage girls would be “tough on crime” and is urging voters to support him.
Beyond his views on slavery and allegations of sexual misconduct, Moore also has referred to Native Americans as “reds and yellows,” has questioned former President Barack Obama’s place of birth (following Trump’s example) and once suggested Muslims should not be allowed to serve in Congress. In spite of all this, Moore still seems to have a shot of becoming a United States senator.
