A Star is born: Beyoncé takes the lead role and Bradley Cooper make his director debut

BY CHEMELLE RICE

In the latest remake to this classic movie it’s been confirmed that our very own queen B and “American Sniper” actor Bradley Cooper are taking the lead role in “A Star is born”. Hollywood, Warner Brothers have been trying to remake the film for years, keeping me ready to spread the word before pulling the plug on the rumours leaving us all hanging. Hollywood have been negotiating with potential leading men over their shall-we shan’t-we go ahead attitude including “Titanic” actor Leonardo DiCaprio, “Mission impossible” stud Tom Cruise, “Fresh Prince” Will Smith and “The Fighter” star Christian Bale before ultimately making their decision.

The female-leading role has crowned the career of Hollywood’s finest actresses, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand being the golden pair whom were previously chosen both in 1954 and 1976. The original American musical was created by writer Moss Hart, two years later Hart had his biggest success with “My Fair lady” in 1956. The female lead was first created by Janet Gaynor in the original 1937 version, appearing with Fredric March. The movie was remade in ‘54 with James Mason and Garland – who, like Gaynor, was rewarded with a Best Actress Oscar nomination – and again in 76 with Streisand and Texas born Kris Kristofferson.

With a deep history behind the production; Beyoncé has big shoes to fill but can she do it? She’s set to follow in the “Somewhere over the rainbow” singers footsteps, in the remake of the 78 year old production. There has been some talk of her taking this role on over the past year, but any clarifications of the go ahead have remained dormant until now.

“It’s a role she has wanted for years. She’s shown that she can act in Austin Powers: Gold member, and held her own singing in Dream girls, but this is her chance to prove her dramatic range and maybe even win an Academy Award. Beyoncé feels this could be her big Hollywood breakthrough” revealed a movie insider and we agree.

This is by far the “Crazy in Love” singers biggest challenged to date, giving the mum of one her biggest role yet! For those of you unaware of the story-line; Jay Z’s wife will be playing an unknown, who rises to ultra-stardom as her famous husband’s career spirals downwards. Luckily for Blue’s mother her new role shares no comparisons to her real life, Mr Jay to the Z’s career is more than spiraling in the upwards direction. It’s definitely the right time to do a remake as it’s been 40 years since the last edition, 30 before then and 20 prior to that. Unlike some rebirths that release merely a decade after it’s original. The time couldn’t be more right.

“The hangover” hunk Bradley Cooper is fresh from his Oscar-nominated success with “American Sniper”, and he’s staying well and truly in the limelight. He will first be appearing in the West End in May- with his hit Broadway production of “The Elephant Man”. When his production ends, he will make his directorial debut with “A Star Is Born” and he has named Beyoncé as his first choice for his leading lady, hmmmm we wonder why? Playing Beyoncé’s husband would give you perks like kissing the songstress perhaps? Yes, clever man hahaha. The director insists Beyoncé is the woman for the role and we agree, although we do think it’s because he has a slight crush on our Spotify champ. Negotiations are under way to finalize the deal. Will her performance win her the Academy Award she longs for? Will bad boy Bradley get a bit too cosy with Jays wife? Either way we can’t wait.
