Roblox, one of the world’s most popular online gaming platforms for children and teenagers, has agreed to a $12 million settlement with the state of Nevada in a landmark agreement aimed at strengthening youth protections, expanding parental controls, and tightening age verification systems across its global user base.
Announced by Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, the agreement resolves concerns over how the platform has historically safeguarded minors in its highly interactive digital environment, where users can create games, chat with others, and engage in virtual economies.
The settlement requires Roblox to implement sweeping new safety measures while also contributing millions of dollars toward youth programs and online safety initiatives across the state.
Under the terms of the agreement, Roblox will pay more than $12 million, including a $10 million contribution spread over three years to fund youth services such as the Boys & Girls Club, as well as broader community and educational programmes.
The company will also support a dedicated law enforcement liaison role and an online safety awareness campaign designed to educate parents and children about risks in digital environments.
The settlement marks one of the most significant state-level actions yet taken against a major gaming platform over child safety concerns and reflects growing scrutiny of digital ecosystems that host millions of young users daily.
According to Nevada officials, the agreement is intended not only to address specific concerns within Roblox but also to serve as a potential model for how regulators and tech companies can cooperate on child protection standards.
Roblox, which reports that a large proportion of its global user base is under the age of 16, has increasingly faced pressure from regulators across the United States over allegations that its systems have not gone far enough to prevent grooming, inappropriate content exposure, and unwanted contact between adults and minors.
The company has previously defended its safety systems, arguing that it invests heavily in moderation and uses a combination of human review and automated tools to protect users.
The Nevada agreement, however, signals a shift toward more prescriptive regulatory expectations, particularly around age assurance technology and communication restrictions.
With part of the settlement, Roblox will be required to introduce mandatory age verification processes for all users engaging in chat functions, along with facial age estimation systems designed to group users into age-appropriate categories.
The platform will also restrict communication between adults and minors unless users are verified as “trusted connections,” a category that requires explicit approval through QR codes or contact verification systems. These changes are intended to reduce the risk of unsolicited contact and limit the ability of bad actors to exploit open communication channels within the platform.
In addition, Roblox will expand parental oversight tools to all users under the age of 16, a notable increase from previous policies that primarily focused on children under 13. Parents will be given broader visibility into account activity, communication settings, and content access, reflecting growing regulatory expectations that parents should have more direct control over children’s digital experiences.
The settlement comes amid a broader wave of legal and regulatory pressure on Roblox across multiple U.S. states. Attorneys general in Texas, Tennessee, Iowa, and other jurisdictions have launched investigations or filed lawsuits alleging that the company has failed to adequately protect children from grooming, exploitation, and exposure to inappropriate content.
In March 2026, Nebraska’s attorney general also filed a high-profile lawsuit accusing Roblox of misleading families about its safety systems and allowing predators to exploit minors through in-game communication tools and virtual currency systems.
Together, these actions reflect a growing consensus among regulators that large-scale gaming platforms must be held to stricter standards when operating services heavily used by children. The Nevada settlement is widely seen as part of this broader regulatory shift rather than an isolated enforcement action.
Rising Scrutiny Over Online Safety
The Nevada agreement also highlights a wider transformation in how governments are approaching online child safety, particularly in interactive gaming environments that combine social networking, content creation, and financial transactions.
