John Lewis recall warning to parents over safety risk

By David Young-

John Lewis is  today urging customers to ‘immediately stop’ using a toy tray on a baby booster seat they were flogging as it poses a ‘choking risk’.

The retail giant issued an urgent product recall about the Maxi-Cosi Jay Plus Booster Seat removable feeding tray.

It relates to a potential issue with one of the toys on the tray as the wire on the tree could break, releasing acorns that cause a potential choking risk.

The tray includes plastic trees and a curved arch. This recall applies only to the removable toy tray with play arch as pictured in the PDF linked below.

The booster seat and feeding tray may still be used.

The recall notice applies to product codes 31340401 and 31340402 and was sold in John Lewis stores between July 1st and October 23rd 2025.

In light of this, John Lewis is urging parents to stop using the products immediately.

The Maxi-Cosi Jay Plus booster seat and its standard feeding tray – without the removable toy tray – remain completely safe for daily use.

Customers are advised to contact Maxi-Cosi for more information about returning the item for a refund or replacement.

Trading standard bosses are warning customers who’ve bought the product elsewhere to look out for the barcodes 2023158110 and 2023159110.

A John Lewis spokesperson said: “Maxi Cosi are recalling the above product because of a potential issue with one of the toys, a tree with a wire and three acorns.

“In rare cases the wire may break, releasing the acorns. This means that there’s a potential risk of choking.

“If you have bought this product between these dates, July 1st 2025 and October 23rd 2025, then stop using the toy tray immediately.

“The Maxi-Cosi Jay Plus booster seat and its standard feeding tray (without the removable toy tray) remain completely safe for daily use.

“Contact Maxi Cosi for more information about returning the item for a refund or replacement.”

A Maxi Cosi spokesperson said: “Reason for recall – the end of the toy arch on the removable tray could break after several manipulations and release small parts. Hazard – risk of ingestion.

“Stop using the toy tray immediately and safely discard the toy arch. The Maxi-Cosi Jay Plus booster seat and its standard feeding tray (without the removable toy tray) remain completely safe for daily use.

“A reinforced replacement toy arch will be sent to you, so that you can continue to enjoy all the functions of your Jay Plus. Email: eu-consumercare@maxi-cosi.com or phone: +33 159200818.”

A spokesperson for the Office for Product Safety & Standards said: “The product presents a risk of choking because the toy arch can detach and break, creating small parts.

“These small parts pose a choking hazard to young children, particularly those under 36 months of age who have a natural tendency to explore objects by placing them in their mouths.

“The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

“The product has been recalled from end users. Owners should stop using the toy tray immediately and safely discard the toy arch.”
