A serving Metropolitan police officer has been charged with multiple serious offences, including “intentional strangulation.”
PC Thomas Andrews also faces charges of actual bodily harm and criminal damage.
The charges follow an incident which happened around 1am on Saturday, at a residential address in Brockley Rise, in south east London.
Thomas Andrews was arrested after patrolling officers were called by a member of the public to Brockley Rise at 1am on Saturday, July 9.
A woman, who was known to the off-duty officer, reported that she had been assaulted and had her phone damaged by the officer.
PC Andrew was arrested on suspicion of ABH and criminal damage. He has since been suspended from duty.
Patrolling officers were alerted by a member of the public to an incident.
At the scene, officer spoke to a man, who identified himself as an off duty police officer, attached to the Met’s Central South Command Unit.
A woman at the same location, who police said was known to the off duty officer, reported she had been assaulted and her phone damaged.
PC Andrews was arrested at the scene and charged with multiple offences today.
A member of the public alerted officers to the incident and upon responding they spoke to PC Andrews.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards have been informed. The Met Police confirmed this on a statement on their website, and said: “A serving Met officer has been charged with a number of offences.
“Following an investigation by officers from the South East Command Unit, on Monday, 11 July PC Thomas Andrews was charged with: ABH, criminal damage, and three counts of intentional strangulation.
“He was kept in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court that same day.
“He has been remanded in custody to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday, 8 August. PC Andrews has been suspended from duty.”
The officer was held in custody over the weekend and appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court today, to face the charges, which include three counts of Intentional Strangulation.
The police constable, who has been suspended from duty, was remanded back into custody.
He will appear at Woolwich Crown Court on 8 August.
