By Gavin Mackintosh-
Birmingham Social Services are ducking addressing the drug issue sweeping many boroughs of social services in the country.
The eye of media.com have communicated with social services managers, and their press office on three occasions about the implementation of random drug testing .
Research about social workers and drugs was conducted by the eye of media.com in 2016 after a tip off from a member of the public. We contacted the Department of Health and we’re told that it was for respective boroughs to conduct the various drug testing.
The eye of media.com has since made communication with Social Services in Southend Borough Council, Newham Borough Council, Islington Borough Council, Nottingham, and Luton about drug testing, following revelations that many sick workers are in class A drugs.
None of the above had fully committed to a drug testing policy, but all except Birmingham Social Services has been in communication. With the eye of media.com with respect to internal discussions and review about the implementation of a drug policy for social workers.
Southend Borough and Islington Councils have both admitted having no drug testing policies and have no immediate plans to implement any drug testing, but to investigate any reports of drug use on a case by case basis.
FLAWED THEORY
That theory has already proved flawed in the case of Southend Borough where a case of a social worker on class A drugs was highlighted , but the council still refused to provide any assurances that a drug test will accompany any denial of drug use. The eye of media.com have not taking our eyes off that borough yet, neither will we take it off this issue of drugs in social services.
The press office in social services promised last week to respond to the issue of drug testing, after two failed earlier responses, but still have not come back with anything.
The eye of media.com have heard that there are some social workers in Birmingham on class A drugs, but we have no definite proof of this. Ever since our campaign for drug testing in social services because of the obvious conflict of interest given the type of profession it is, the eye of media has been sent a number of messages reporting boroughs and social workers doing class A drugs.
RESIGNATIONS
We have confronted a few of them, with two resignations from social workers we approached with evidence of their guilt. Social work us a very important profession that addresses delicate matters in troubled families . It will be absolutely shameful to allow a state of regular drug taking to continue without challenge and ultimately, a change.
