The JFK file documents have been released to the public , after over five decades since the assassination of the U.S president.
The files are an eye opener to the shocking event that took the world by surprise when it happened, leaving a lot of important questions unanswered. Not all the files were released because of security concerns cited by President Trump. The files reveal the confusion and cover ups that followed, as well as the mysterious phone calls to the police from an anonymous individual claiming to be part of an organised plan to kill Oswald, the man suspected of the assassination. The files are vast in content with a heap of miscellaneous information to sift through.
The files reveal a disorientated and confused US government and establishment, as it attempted to deal with the fallout from the shooting. It reveals expressed concerns about threats to Oswald’s life, with guarantees of police protection provided, which ofcourse failed. No conspiracy is uncovered in the documents despite the overwhelming suspicion that there was one. However, silence over repeated questions as to whether Oswald was on the CIA’s pay roll raises suspicions over as to why no response was ever forthcoming on that.
Concern about a conspiracy was held by the FBI themselves who did not want conspiracy theorists to undermine their own genuine investigation. The huge concern about a conspiracy broader than the lone assassin was expressed in the released documents:
.
“The thing I am concerned about, and so is (deputy attorney general) Mr. Katzenbach, is having something issued so we can convince the public that Oswald is the real assassin,” he said. He also reported: “Last night we received a call from our Dallas office from a man talking in a calm voice and saying he was a member of a committee organized to kill Oswald.”
Hoover said he relayed that warning to Dallas police and was assured Oswald would be sufficiently protected. Oswald was shot dead the next day by Jack Ruby.
The 300 documents held back on the instruction of the US intelligence establishment remains mysterious and troublesome in nature. They could potentially contain the most crucial information to complete the missing jigsaw surrounding the assassination of JF Kennedy.
U.S President Trump has given agencies six months to sort through the files and present arguments to justify files that should remain secret.
Any secrecy that continues to surround the death of JF Kennedy will only fuel more conspiracy theories rather than dispel them. Some of the JFK files may never be released for assessment.
