Iran claims to have successfully tested a new-medium range missile, in defiance of US President Donald Trump.
The Khoramshahr missile launched by the Iranians, has a range of 2,000 km (1,242 miles)and appears to be in defiance of President Trump who recently criticized the regime at the United Nations meeting last Tuesday.
On Friday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran would increase its military power “as a deterrent”.
The Khoramshahr missile was first displayed at a military parade on Friday in Tehran. It is capable of carrying multiple warheads, Iranian media report.
General Amir Hatami, Iran’s Defence Minister, outlined the “unique specifications” of the missile. He said:
“The ability to evade the enemy’s air defense line and to be guided from the moment of launch until the target is hit turns Khoramshahr into a tactical missile,” he said.
PERMISSION
Iran would “not seek permission from any country for producing various kinds of missile”, he added. Iran’s decision to test its missile is similar to the outright defiance displayed by North Korea. The country is following in the footsteps of North Korea in its determination to independently determine whether to develop weapons or not.
Experts also believe that the Iranian government is reacting to the outright condemnation of Iraq expressed by Donald Trump at the UN meeting last week.
At the same time, the Iranian government claim the missile did not have nuclear warheads and is therefore not in contravention of the UN agreement.
