Warren Believes Fury Can Beat Wilder And The Unify Titles

By Tim Parsons-

Frank Warren believes Tyson Fury will beat Deontey Wilder, after the fight was announced on Tuesday night to be  heading for the Staple Centre In Los Angeles On December 1. Warren wants to see Fury in an all British unification fight if his man beats WBC ruler, Deontey Wilder on December 1, and is already preparing his mind and the public for that clash.

Warren had initially planned to give Fury two more fights before matching him with anything serious, but admits his confidence in Fury’s chances of wining has grown just by observing Fury’s confidence in himself. That could be a mistake when we consider that Tyson Fury has not long recovered from mental health issues and may be going for the big cash on offer for this fight.

In saying that, there can be no doubt that Fury is a man with a lot of guts and heart. As a man of gypsy heritage, his tendency will sometimes be to just go for risky ventures in the fight game where rewards can be high for taking risks. Fury has already been in training for this fight, but will have to be in the shape of his life to have a chance of pulling the upset with great grit and determination. Many of Fury fans will certainly believe he can do it. Fury is a man of pride, and this makes it difficult to imagine that he will come to lie down for cash.

He will come to fight and to win, but will have no chance unless he is in much better shape and condition than he has been in his last two fights. No matter the shape and condition Tyson Fury comes in, he will  still be expected to loose because of his long absence from the ring before the fights.

However his chances of beating Wilder will go up if he is in good shape within the next few weeks and participates in long, serious sparring in his new condition, improving his condition as time goes leading up to the fight. Warren has praised his man for agreeing to fight Wilder, criticising Joshua’s team at the same time for choosing to fight Povetkin instead of Wilder.

Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Warren said: “You’ve heard it and the message is there, they’re going to sign Dillian Whyte next. That’s the direction they’re going in.

“I said a long time before about Wilder fighting Joshua ‘he won’t – he’ll sign Povetkin’ and that’s what happened.“The bottom line is this is what should happen.

“The winner of this fight, which I hope and believe will be Tyson, should be in the ring to find out who is the best.

“[Muhammad] Ali, [Joe] Frazier II and [George] Foreman all fought each other – the best fight the best.

“Barry Hearn said Anthony Joshua’s the number one but that’s his opinion and some people think it’s Wilder and some think it’s Tyson.

“If he beats Wilder, I think Tyson’s number one but the only way to find out is to let them all face off against each other“Then we’ll have a true champion.”

That’s true,  but Fury has the tough task of first beating a seasoned knock out artist in Wilder. Fury will try to outbox Wilder, smother him, and make his weight advantage count, and it can only count if he is really fit for the fight.

PRESSURE

The pressure will be on Wilder, who mustn’t underestimate an unpredictable fighter like Fury who can box and also fight when he needs to. A lot will ride on how hard Fury has been training up until now and how much he recognises the danger Wilder poses to him. Wilder has beaten a lot of heavier people throughout his career, but Fury in good shape and condition could be an awkward and difficult heavy man to beat if  he brings a good fight to the Staples Centre on December 1.
