UK Supermarkets Don’t Sell Enough Healthy Foods

By Charlotte Webster.-

UK Supermarkets need to do more to sell healthy foods.

A close study of foods on display in most supermarkets including Sainsbury’ s and Tescos shows that most supermarkets sell mine unhealthy foods than they do healthy ones.

Almost all unhealthy foods are packaged well with glittering colorings and attractive slogans. The core element of deception is the fact most of the foods advertised are not healthy at all.

Sandwiches, sausages, and a vast majority of delicious snacks and meals are bad for us but highly demanded by customers. Healthy foods like salads and fruits constitute a small percentage of the total foods up for sale in supermarkets.

MOTIVATION

Consumers are largely motivated by taste and quantity instead of quality and substance This fact is hugely exploited by the profit making fat cats who run supermarkets. The need for a wider variety of healthy foods in supermarkets is critical.

Customers need to remember that the interest and motivation of businessmen is confined to profit making, and not the well-being of the consumer. Businessmen can’t really be blamed, especially those of them who do not lead healthy lifestyles themselves.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE

Consumers should regularly check the nutritional values contained in the foods they buy, and lean more towards those foods that don’t have too many fats or carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are essential for the development of the body, but too much h carbohydrates is not good. They eventually turn to fat and are more useful to the body before or after exercise.

A spokesperson.for Tesco told the eye of.media.com

” we continue to consult with health agencies about the kind of healthy foods we can add to our food supply for the healthy condition of our customers. We obviously must always gauge the benefits of foods we sell and the response from customers

The offer of goods must necessarily correspond to the sale of those goods, and we are working g actively to.diversify the products we have on sale”.

Sainsbury’ s was contacted for comment, but have not yet responded.
