U.S Promoter To Match Fury Twice Before WBC Champ Wilder

U.S promoter Bob Arum is to give Tyson Fury two warm up fights before putting him back in the ring with Deontey Wilder.

Arum is to push Tyson’s Fury’s long awaited rematch with Deontey Wilder to 2020 in his latest bid to first build the brits profile in America.  Arum, who partners with U.K promoter Frank Warren is plotting a blockbuster pay per view before putting his man against the American who holds the WBC heavyweight title. Fury surprised many boxing observers when he held the unbeaten big punching American to a draw last December in Los Angeles, leaving fans itching for a rematch.

The delay has disappointed fans and angered Wilder, who was eager for an opportunity to set the record straight in their planned rematch. Fury(27-0-1) will instead face unbeaten German Tom Schwarz, and Wilder(40-0-1) will meet Dominic Breazeale on May 18 in a grudge match .Neither of the two fights is an exciting thought for fans, as both fighters are expected to prevail comfortably, unless one or both of the other two opponents puts up a surprise performance.

However, Fury (27-0-1) signed a broadcast contract with ESPN which made things difficult as Wilder (40-0-1) is signed with Showtime – a rival broadcaster. The Gypsy King is fighting little-known German Tom Schwarz on 15 July, while the Bronze Bomber faces Dominic Breazeale on 18 June, and it was hoped the pair would clash after those fights.

Arum told SunSport: “We will use Fury vs Schwarz to show the public this Tyson Fury personality and then maybe another fight after that.
“Then, when we do another fight between Fury and Wilder, we will shoot for two million or more PPV buys so the two fighters make humongous money.
“Tyson Fury now has ESPN behind him and they are the biggest megaphone in sports. We have the time to build him up now for the US market because they don’t really know him.
“Wilder vs Fury got into around 300,000 homes but the second, if they build Wilder up more with the US public, then we can talk about a super-fight that gets into millions of homes.”
