tyson Fury’ s Cocaine Drug Test Failure

By Tim Parsons-

Tyson Fury failed a  drug test conducted on September 22, after cocaine was found in his system.

Espn broke the news that cocaine was found in the system of the world champion after a urine sample was taken. Tyson Fury pulled out the day after, in what seems to connect the reason for the withdrawal to the drug test.

The controversial and very unpopular heavyweight champion’ s team put out a press release claiming depression was the reason for his withdrawal. All the while, Fury was worried about the cocaine in his system.

However, it is has been suggested by some boxing pundits that Fury will not be banned, because drugs found in the system outside of competition period  is not deemed illegal.

Whether this is true or not is debatable, though if true, it would highlight the futility of any such drugs test. How much influence cocaine can have on the outcome of a fight is yet to be examined, though most banned drugs found in the system of boxers have been much stronger than cocaine.

Tyson Fury’s withdrawal from the Klitschko fight has left the heavyweight division in limbo, this being his second withdrawal this year.

Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua’ s promoter has been in talks with Klitschkos team to put Joshua in with Klitschko’s, for a blockbuster unification fight. That fight will need the authorization of the sanctioning bodies, who are still undecided on how to deal with Fury.

They are awaiting a medical certification from Fury to confirm the original claim of mental health provided for him missing the fight.
