The Greatest Television Dad’s Fall From Grace Is Heavy

Bill Cosby’s fall from grace is one of the most shameful and disgraceful falls by any high profile celebrity. Bill Cosby, was the Greatest Television Dad, and was was the  an Icon in America, having starred in one of the most loved comedy shows in America at the time.

The Cosby Show was an American television sitcom, in which Bill Cosby starred as Cliff Huxtable. The show was aired for eight seasons on NBC from September 20, 1984, until April 30, 1992. The show focuses on the Huxtable family, an upper middle-class African-American family living in Brooklyn, New York.

On Tuesday, the 81-year-old entertainer once known as America’s Dad, was labelled a “sexually violent predator” by Montgomery County Judge Steven O’Neill, who then sentenced him to three to 10 years behind bars for drugging and sexually assaulting Canadian woman Andrea Constand. Over 60 women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct, ever since Constandi publicly identified Cosby as her sexual attacker and pursued a criminal prosecution against one of U.S television’s greatest television personalities.

His mega-hit sitcom The Cosby Show, was the most successful show ever to be recorded on television. As a comedian, Cosby came on the scene when there were only a few black standup comics of prominence were on the scene.
The show centered on the upper middle-class family of Dr. Cliff Huxtable, his wife Clair a successful lawyer, and their five children, living in New York. It was a ratings juggernaut, coming when many TV observers had delivered the last rites to the sitcom.

The Cosby Show also helped revitalize NBC by successfully enhancing the entire Thursday primetime lineup. It was the top television show Americans loved to watch. The Cosby show also drew a strong international audience. Cosby’s  big fall from grace is a reminder that nobody should ever feel too big to be punished by the law or held to account for sexual misconduct or any proven misconduct of any kind. It was disingenuous of Cosby to have felt he could pull the wall on everybody eyes indefinitely whilst committing sexual offences of a serious nature.
