By Charlotte Webster-

Russell Brand is celebrating 15 years of giving up drugs . The comedian who has appeared in 17 movies, sent a tweet today celebrating the long number of years he has given up drugs and alcohol. Brand tweeted:

“Fifteen years without drugs and alcohol TODAY. Thanks to everyone that’s helped me on The Path. Proof that Recovery can work for everyone.”

Brand’s addiction to drugs in his youth is well documented; the outspoken funny man also suffered eating disorders in his teenage years. His defeat of the killer habit has motivated many addicts to give up, and the comedian has given numerous talks about his experiences with drugs.

However, Brand sometimes demonstrates traits that indicate the possibility the still suffers from the symptoms of drugs.

Brand gave the impression during an interview with The Jonathan Ross show that he was still recovering from drugs. He told the show:

“The drug problem, I’m still recovering from it, aren’t I?…
“…I have used my life as a sort of greedy experiment, gorging myself on all manner of phenomena.
“There were some brilliant bits, of course there were, some of the bits were really, really brilliant.

PATRON

Russell Brand is a patron of the Focus 12 drug treatment plan- an organisation he himself used as a recovering addict. He also helped raise money for recovering addicts during a 2013 concert. His passion to help recovering drug addicts is strong, to the extent of him writing a book about it, which he called ‘Recovery’ and subtitled subtitled ‘Freedom from Our Addictions’. The very fact he made a record of the day he gave up drugs shows that level of importance and victory he has attached to his conquest. Drugs destroys people’s lives and future, so overcoming it is worth celebrating.
