A 32-year-old man who assaulted his partner twice in the space of a few weeks has today been jailed for a total of four years.

Spencer (pictured)was jailed for three years in relation to the first assault involving the strangulation and the judge added a further year in custody for the second assault committed while he was on bail.

Bradford Crown Court heard  disturbing details of Daniel Spencer’s disturbing past towards past partners he had dated. He had previous convictions for breaching non-molestation orders which had been applied for by two other women.

Judge Graham Reeds today condemned KC for his past record indicating abusive behaviour towards partners. He is clearly a menace to women, one every decent woman should avoid like the plague.

Spencer’s latest offending took place in May and June last year, but when his case was listed for trial this week, he entered guilty pleas to two separate charges of assault, occasioning actual bodily harm.

Prosecutor Laura McBride said Spencer of Huddersfield town centre, got into an argument with his partner at an address in Sowerby Bridge, Calderdale, and he grabbed her by the neck.

She said Spencer was strangling the complainant to the point where she started to collapse and he then let go.

“She said she felt she was going to die because she couldn’t breathe,” said Miss McBride.

As the assault continued, Spencer kicked her legs from under her and she banged her head on some dumbbells.

The woman phoned her father after running upstairs and he alerted the police.

When the couple went on a caravan holiday to Skegness and during another assault at a nightclub Spencer tried to bite her on the cheek.

In her victim impact statement, the complainant described suffering from anxiety and nightmares, and feeling constantly on edge.

Jurors were told that that Spencer, who has been remanded in custody since August last year, had been convicted of breaching previous non-molestation orders back in 2009 and 2015, but his barrister Abigail Langford said this was the first time he had been convicted of actual violence.

She said he intended to move away from the area when he was released from prison, and had no intention of seeking a reconciliation with the complainant..

Spencer was jailed for three years in relation to the first assault involving the strangulation and the judge added a further year in custody for the second assault committed while he was on bail.

The judge also made an indefinite restraining order which bans Spencer from contacting the complainant directly or indirectly.
