Prince Harry Reportedly Seeks to ‘Reset’ Royal Ties and Public Relationship

By Frank  Offiong-

LONDON — Prince Harry is reportedly seeking to mend his relationship with the Royal Family and the British public, according to an insider, following a recent trip to the UK. The Duke of Sussex’s visit, which included a meeting with King Charles, is seen as a move to “reset” his ties after a period of strained relations.

The Duke, who turned 40 this year, recently spent four days in London and Nottingham before traveling to Ukraine. His week included several charity engagements and a significant reconciliation meeting with his father, King Charles, their first face-to-face interaction in 19 months.

A royal source has suggested to the Daily Mail that the past week could be the beginning of a process for Harry, Meghan, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, to become part of a “functioning wider family again.” The King is reportedly eager to rebuild his relationship with his son and spend time with his grandchildren, whom he has not seen in three years.

“It’s become clear that Harry now regrets some of his actions. He wants to reset his relationship with his family and with the people of the UK,” the insider said. While it is considered unlikely that the Duke will ever move back to Britain, the source believes this trip could be a step towards a more functional family dynamic.

This sentiment echoes a previous comment from Prince Harry himself in May, following a court case, where he told the BBC he “would love a reconciliation” and that “there’s no point continuing to fight any more.”

While the reunion with King Charles was described as a “positive step forward,” there appears to be no thawing in relations with his brother, Prince William. Despite being a few miles apart at one point, the Prince of Wales reportedly refused to meet with Harry. The choice of Harry’s final engagement, an event for The Diana Award, a charity both brothers have been involved with, served to highlight the continuing distance between them. Tessy Ojo, the charity’s chief executive, noted that the brothers have always conducted their work with the organization separately.

Following his UK visit, the Duke traveled to Kyiv, Ukraine, as part of his work for the Invictus Games, and to support the nation’s veterans. He said that he had to get clearance from his wife and the British government before making the trip, which came just days after a Russian cruise missile attack on the capital. The Duke stated that his goal was to “humanise the people involved in this war” and keep their plight in the public eye.

The meeting with King Charles is seen by some as potentially paving the way for the Duke and Duchess’s children to visit their grandfather next year. The King last saw Archie and Lilibet in June 2022 during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. While there are security obstacles to a visit, including the fact that Harry’s taxpayer-funded security was reduced after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties, an insider suggested a way could be found to ensure their safety within a royal residence.

A spokesman for the Duke said he “loved” being back in the UK and “catching up with old friends” and that he was “buoyed by how well he felt this one had gone.”
