By Sammie Jones-

Deaths and the number of positive tests of  Covid-19 deaths are back at pre-lockdown levels, it has been announced.

The Government today announced the rise in deaths were 15  in the past 24 hours – the lowest since March 15.

Meanwhile, 958 new infections were recorded across the nation – the lowest since March 22. The country was plunged into total lockdown on March 23.

Consideration for potential lag’s in reporting means numbers might be a bit higher, but there isn’t expected to be a major gap in figures

Both Scotland and Ireland today reported no new coronavirus deaths in the country in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, Wales recorded one more fatality, bringing the total to 1,478.

After three months of quarantine with  all none essential shops closed in an attempt to stop the spread, the UK government its on its way to almost completely easing the lockdown. Boris Johnson is expected reduce the 2m distance to 1m, reducing the gap that separated people for weeks.

Brits were told to work from home and not socialise with friends in the crackdown.

When the UK  originally went into lockdown, 967 cases were recorded. And that was before testing was increased.

Hospital Fall

Health Secretary Matt Hancock today revealed  that the number of people currently being treated in hospital for coronavirus has dropped below 5,000. At its peak, on 12 April, the number of patients in hospital was 20,699.

Mr Hancock said the figures were “pointing in the right direction”, adding: “The plan is working.”

“Infections are falling, the NHS is restoring and the virus is in retreat,” he said.

“A month ago around one in 400 people had the virus, now it’s about one in 1,700 – and this means that tomorrow the prime minister will be able to set out the next steps in our plan to ease the national lockdown.”

Health Secretary Matt Hancock plans to end the shielding at the end of July as the Covid-19 daily death rate continues to fall.

Mr Hancock added that the daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus has fallen to below 1,000 for the first time since the peak o the virus.

Sunshine

Brits are basking in the sunshine and making the most of the sunshine which is expected to only get hotter by the day. Total caution is not yet being thrown to the wind, but there is a general feeling that things are slowly getting back to some type of normality.

The ‘new normal’ has been mentioned again and again, it is a question of how long people will keep 1m apart before they close up the gap on their own.
