Why Oscar Rivas Will Become WBC Mandatory Challenger To Wilder’s Belt

Oscar Wilder will become the mandatory challenger to WBC champion, Deontey Wilder’s belt, following the recent revelation of Dillian Whyte’s failed drug test.

Whyte who has long complained of being unjustly overlooked by the WBC organisation, has for a while been gunning for a fight with the only reigning world heavyweight champion now . That fight might as well as vanished like a flashing light after the latest revelations of power enhancing substances found in Whyte’s system. The chances of a miraculous and defensible explanation for the finding are so remote that our focus is now on dangerous Oscar Rivas, who is left shining of roses, getting his surprise chance at a chance of unbeaten Wilder, despite loosing that fight.

Whyte is no stranger to this process,  having tested positive for a banned stimulant , following his triumph over Hungary’s Sandor Balogh in October 2012. The excuse he gave that his culpability was inadvertent and not deliberate was accepted by a tribunal, but not the Drugs Anti Doping Agency Ukad which slapped him with a 2 year ban. This case will predictably be no different unless the BA sample contradicts the A sample, which is an unlikelihood.

Rivas was very competitive against Whyte  in his display of comparable qualities of fighting technique and exemplary levels of resilience. In retrospect, it can be said that he performed outstandingly if he was fighting against a man  energised by the stimulating components of banned and illegal substances. The Columbian was game against a supremely potent Dillian Whyte,  and even nearly stopped him in the 9th round when he floored Whyte . who made a quick recovery.

Whyte had for the first time looked capable of upsetting Deontey Wilder in 2020, short of one of Wilder’s big bombs putting the Brixton man’s lights out. Instead, it is the clean fighting Columbian who will get to meet Wilder next year in what will be an action packed fight for boxing fans , filled with thrilling moments. The Columbian is a thorough bred fighter invigorated by speed, technic, power, and determination. A strong presence of self belief also underlies those attributes of his.

Thunder hitting Wilder, has always spoken out against drugs and is a model athlete when it comes to anti drug policies. He is a clean fighter gifted with natural power. The manifestation of that naturally gifted power can be enhanced  with correct and sustained training, making him a genuinely dangerous opponent for any heavyweight in the world. Only heavyweights who can effectively nullify the sustained execution of his power can survive his onslaught, and they will have to be good.

Wilder remains unbeaten in 42 fights and will be tested against Rivas if the Alabama power house convincingly gets past Tyson Fury in early 2020, which he easily could do on his night. First, he must actually brush aside tough Ortiz later this year and confirm  his newfound increased power , derived from his more methodical training and enhanced dieting, allied to his potently strong genes.

The WBC ruler takes on a career risk fight by agreeing that rematch with Luis Ortis later this year in November in a voluntary defence.  Ortiz whose sole loss comes against Wilder in the 10th round of their thrilling first fight, nearly stopped the very powerful American in the 7th round of their first fight. Saved by the bell, confident talking Wilder garnered enough strength to produce a career best win against the solid Cuban heavyweight, who at 41 is still a force to be reckoned  in the sports premiere  division.

SCINTILLATING

Rivas against Wilder for he WBC title will be a very  lucrative and  also a scintillating fight for as long as it lasts, with a knock out outcome as good as a certainty.  Rivas has the higher work rate with ample speed and power to seize the WBC crown, but Wilder brings speed and special power to the table.

A scenario in which Rivas meets Fury, assuming the gypsy king prevails against Wilder, will also be interesting, but less intriguing than a clash between the Columbian and Wilder. Rivas will pose a legitimate threat to Fury, but the wider disparity in physical proportions allied to Fury’s agility and unorthodox tactics will make Fury a bigger favourite to beat Rivas. Rivas now has a golden opportunity to emulate Andy Ruiz Jnr by aspiring to a remarkable victory, and he will relish the chance.
