New Study Reveals That 40% Of Covid-19 Deaths In U.S Were Avoidable

A new study has found that up to 40% of COVID-19 deaths in the US were avoidable.

The study examined Trump’s health care policy record, and noted there were multiple factors in the death toll. They also weighted the average death rate in the other G7 countries and compared it to the US death rate

The study which heaps blame on former U.S president Donald Trump  examines Trump’s health care policy record. It noted  multiple factors in the death toll, and weighted the average death rate in the other G7 countries and compared it to the US death rate.

The report heavy criticised Trump for his response to the pandemic,  emphasizing the disastrous response to the virus’s spread was the result of years of destructive public policy decisions on health that extended well beyond the Trump years.

The study, published in the Lancet Journal, found the US’s public health infrastructure was partly to blame. Between 2002 and 2019, public health spending in the country fell from 3.21% to 2.45%, around half the spending of Canada and the UK.

The result is more than 450,000 deaths where “about 40 percent of which could have been averted had the U.S. death rate mirrored the weighted average of the other G7 nations.” That said, the trajectory of the U.S. falling behind G7 nations in life expectancy has grown over the past decade even before the coronavirus exacerbated existing deficiencies in the U.S.

Dr Mary T Bassett, a member of the study and director of Harvard University’s FXB Center for Health and Human Rights, told The Guardian:.

The study noted how the declining health service infrastructure over the last twenty years meant there were systematic issues that led to unnecessary deaths.

The study went beyond examining healthcare as a potential reason behind unneeded death, but also investigated ‘inequities and injustices’ that lead to sickness.  Trump’s regulatory rollbacks policies have therefore taken the blame for the deaths of tens of thousands of people.

President Biden has been going to very high lengths  to reduce the spread of the virus.  Funding is believed to be the key factor to limiting deaths and providing the best opportunities for victims of the virus to survive.
