An IT worker who turned out to be a Fentanyl killer who poisoned millionaire couple and faked  a will to steal company is jailed

Luke D’Wit, (pictured), the perpetrator behind the heinous poisoning of Essex millionaire couple Carol and Stephen Baxter, has been handed a life sentence, with a minimum term of 37 years before parole eligibility.

Luke D’Wit, 34, used fake identities to manipulate the couple before cruelly lacing their medication with the drug, a trial at Chelmsford Crown Court heard.

The sentencing, delivered by Mr Justice Nicholas Lavender, reflects the severity of D’Wit’s crimes and the profound impact on the victims and their loved ones.

Described as “cruel and senseless” by the presiding judge, D’Wit showed no remorse as he faced the consequences of his actions. The court heard how he callously manipulated the Baxters, ultimately leading to their tragic demise through the administration of fentanyl, a potent opioid.

D’Wit’s elaborate scheme involved posing as a doctor, exploiting Carol Baxter’s vulnerability by fabricating a fictitious autoimmune disease diagnosis.

Under the guise of medical assistance, he orchestrated a series of deceptions, including the creation of a forged will to ensure financial gain from the couple’s deaths.

The 34-year-old resident of Churchfields, Mersea Island, was convicted by a jury following an exhaustive trial, shedding light on the intricate web of lies and manipulation woven by desperately evil defendant.

Investigating officers described the case as one of the most complex they had ever encountered, testament to D’Wit’s calculated and deceptive tactics.

Through his actions, D’Wit betrayed the trust of the Baxters and shattered the lives of those closest to them. His insidious conduct not only robbed the victims of their lives but also inflicted immeasurable suffering upon their families and communities.

While D’Wit may spend decades behind bars, the memory of Carol and Stephen Baxter lives on, their legacy overshadowed by the despicable actions of their assailant.

The verdict sends a clear message that such acts of malevolence will not go unpunished, offering a modicum of solace to those affected by this tragic ordeal.

Yet, as the scars of this harrowing episode heal, the pursuit of justice remains steadfast, ensuring that the memory of the victims endures, undiminished by the darkness that sought to extinguish their light.
