Nearly 700 reports of a UFO hovering across Britain were made to the International Meteor Organisation after a giant ball of light soared across the New Year’s Eve night.
Hundreds who claimed to have witnessed the mysterious object believe they saw a ufo, but it remains to be confirmed whether an alternative explanation for the unidentified object exists.
The meteor-like object was said to be moving quite slowly and lowly in the shies that some thought it may land. Several witnesses shared their experiences on social media.

“Wow! Sensational celestial sights spotted over Doncaster. An amazing green meteor soared over the racecourse just now.”
The International Meteor Organization have attempted to quench the rumors of an alien visitation, by stating that the object was a meteor that had split in two upon entering Earth’s atmosphere. Ufos have for a while been an intriguing topic that has aroused the curiosity of interested people. The intrigue has got so bad that even the sight of anything unidentifiable is many times believed to be an alien.
Ufos by definition refer to objects in the skies that are unidentifiable, but the real area of wonder is whether these objects represents evidence of other life out there.
Residents preparing for their New Year’s Eve celebrations reported the mysterious object as it emerged in the skies above Britain.
At least 679 reports were made to the International Meteor Organization, predominantly in England and Scotland, after the giant ball of light soared across the New Year’s Eve night sky.
On Twitter, International Meteor Organization said: “Probably one of the last bright fireballs of 2017, but what a fireball!
“More than 150 witnesses reported a very bright meteor observed around 17h 35min UT, on December 31, and reports keep coming in!”
The UK Meteor Networked added: “Ukmon received over 570 public reports.
“Many observers reported green colour and fragmentation at the end.
“The meteor was apparently moving quite slowly.”
Amazed onlookers also joined in to share their experiences on social media.
Lin Mathers wrote on Twitter:
“Bright blue/green light sped across the sky, over the castle towards Denaby Crags.
“So low in the sky, genuinely thought it was coming to land. Stunning sight! Breathtaking.”
Visit Doncaster also wrote:
“Wow! Sensational celestial sights spotted over Doncaster. An amazing green meteor soared over the racecourse just now.”
The International Meteor Organization quashed rumors of an alien visitation, telling curious witnesses they had seen a meteor that had split in two upon entering Earth’s atmosphere.
It is likely part of the annual Quadrantid meteor shower, which runs from December 22 to January 17.
