Great Grandmother Hits Guinness Book Of Records As World’s Oldest Competitive Power Lifter

A great-great-grandmother  who turned 100 years of age yesterday, Sunday, has made the  Guiness books of records as the World Record holder.

Edith Murway-Traina is a powerlifting granny from Tampa, Florida has become the world’s oldest female competitive powerlifter.

The woman who has competed in several power lifting competitions can deadlift 165 pounds and bench press 65 pounds. Her achievement is remarkable, and  a reminder that anything is possible, and age must never put a limit on an individua’s goals or dreams.

Murway-Traina was a performer and dancer many years ago and did not begin  weightlifting until she turned 91. That’s when she saw some friends doing it and decided to try her hand.

“I picked up a few bars, and they got to be fun,” Murway-Traina said.

“I’m expecting in November I will have another trophy with a whole bunch of applause,” Murway-Traina said.

The Guinness World Records on Instagram shared a video  of 100-year-old Edith Murway-Traina from Florida, the USA who will be celebrated her 100th birthday on August 8, 2021. The caption reads, “She’s A 100-Year-Old Powerlifter. Oldest competitive powerlifter Edith Murway-Traina from Florida, USA celebrates her 100th birthday this week! She features in the #GWR2022 book, coming soon.”

She has been lifting weights from 40 to 150 pounds  achieving several powerlifting records and inspiring viewers with her lifts.

The video shows the journey of Edith and how she started working out almost 10 years back. The viral video has gathered over 57,000 views and still counting.

Her accomplishments are worthy of much praise, and today we wish her happy belated birthday with many more achieving years to come.
