German Candimaker Haribo Accused Of Slave Labour Conditions

By James Simons-

German television is to expose a German candy maker for slavery labor conditions which it alleges to be inhumane and wicked.

The international gummy candy products are popular for consumers, but German Candimaker, Haribo will be exposed by a documentary aired in Germany accusing the candymaker of using products made in unbearable conditions for animals and humans, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The documentary alleges that the company purchased carnauba wax from a Brazilian company that produced the ingredient under slave labor conditions. It details the inhumane conditions as including lack of bathroom aces, no drinking water, and horrible living conditions for its workers. Workers at the company reportedly made $12 a day for harvesting palm leaves.

Slavery conditions include the imposition of labor on workers for a month, before being allowed to return home. The Brazilian ministry of labor denounced the company, claiming the employees were treated “worse than animal” and the conditions “could be described as slavery,” .

German broadcaster Deutsche Welle will air the damning claims poised to ruin the reputaion of the German Candimaker. They will add that the company produced ingredients using slave labor, Haribo also reportedly sourced its gelatin from producers with cruel animal conditions, the Chronicle reported.

The documentary alleges that the candymaker outsourced gelatin production to a producer using a farm where pigs had open wounds and pens covered in feces – or even dead pigs. Disgraced Haribo promised to launch an investigation into its practices following the documentary, telling Vice’s food site Munchies that “the conditions on the pig farms and the Brazilian plantations shown are insupportable.”
“Should it transpire that urgent improvements are needed in this area, we will insist on their implementation and will not rest until these improvements have been implemented,” a representative of Haribo told the outlet. Revelation of the allegations will alarm customers and regulators who were blissfully ignorant of the insensitive and cruel processes through which the German company has been prospering.

Slave conditions in our modern 21st century are becoming more common among some organisations, highlighting the greed and insensitivity bosses at high levels can sometimes have. Investigators for the programme conducted a careful investigation over time, as the dodgy and manipulative German company exploited vulnerable workers without any conscience or sense of accountability. The ludicrously low wage of $12 a day will shock millions of viewers who will be astounded at the extent to which greed can bring the worst side of human beings sometimes. The actions of these bosses themselves was worse than animals, and they shall deserve every ruin the revelation causes, except it can invalidate and refute the damning claims.
