FURY TO BE TWO FIGHTS BEHIND JOSHUA IN POPULARITY STAKES

FURY TO BE TWO FIGHTS BEHIND JOSHUA IN POPULARITY STAKES

BY TIM PARSONS

Tyson Fury will be a further two fights behind  Anthony Joshua in the popularity department this July, when he meets Wladimir Klitschko for a rematch.

By then, Joshua would have had two impressive victories by the time he has fought and likely beaten American Breazealen, a month earlier, even though until the fight takes place, nobody knows what will happen. This American will be intent on succeeding where his fellow American recently failed, and has the confidence to give it a good go.

However, if he wins again in style, Joshua will be looking more and more the real deal, with his stock growing and gradually overshadowing Fury’s achievements.  Fury, has announced he will need to loose  over 3 stonnes by July, a sharp contrast to Joshua who is always in great shape. In retaliation to Fury’s jibes, the usually quiet Joshua referred to him as ”fat boy” in a deliberate attempt to annoy the 6 ft 9 inch ‘gypsy king’ who had recently gone out of his way to openly put Joshua down.

SCATHING
Loud mouth Fury has always been scathing of Joshua, who has now been crowned with a belt, Fury lost by default. It no doubt must be painful for Fury, who has always told Joshua that he will show him a higher league of boxing quality whenever the pair meet.  But in  wind up stunt on twitter, Joshua  offered to help his heavyweight  shed three stone ahead of his WBA and WBO rematch scheduled for Manchester in July.

Unbeaten Fury who recently played down Joshua’s insult in an interview with Sky Sports news stated “I think it’s just natural genetics,”   “I am never going to be Mr Universe and I don’t need to be. I am a fighting man. “You don’t see a good-looking pitbull, do you? With its tail docked off, it’s ears docked off, and their face in bits like it’s been chopped up by a badger.
“That’s what I am. I am a natural fighter. I am the Gypsy King. I don’t need muscles – and you can’t put muscles on your chin. I’ve beaten plenty of six packs, don’t worry about that.

CONFIDENCE

In a typical show of ultra confidence, Fury boasted “Whatever they put in front of me, I’ve got the agility and the style to beat and overcome them. You know why? Because I’m a gypsy and gypsies adapt to any situation and any environment.” Fury not long claimed his gypsy heritage had attracted racism because ”nobody wants to see a gypsy do well”. However, the truth is that Fury’s reckless talk an unguided antics is the what attracts a lot of disapproval of him in the nation. He lacks etiquette and talks recklessly, without consideration for the impact of his words.  In this sense, he is the Russell Brand of British boxing, except that Brand is more intelligent and better educated.

Fury readily uses obscene language in a care free manner that turns off the most decent among us, has no sense of decency or appreciation of equal opportunities, as displayed in his homophobic and sexist rant just before he beat Wladimir Klitschko to become heavyweight champion of the world.  Fury is unbeaten and can fight, but he does not have the appeal Joshua brings to the table. Joshua is cool and explosive, delivering the goods all the time against reasonably decent opposition. Joshua and Fury will have to meet sometime down the line, and the boxing world is currently split as to who would win they meet. however, In the meantime, Fury should concentrate in getting in good shape, and not take Klitschko for granted in this rematch the former reigning champion desperately needs to win, but which Fury must win if he is to retain any chance of proving his claimed superiority over Joshua in a money spinning fight at the end of this year or early next year.
