Frank Bruno has been readmitted to hospital after suffering a relapse in his battle with bipolar, it has been revealed today

The former boxing world champion who has been sectioned three times in the last decade has suffered “severe bout of depression” . Frank told about his depression to The Sunday Mirror in 2011, and was released from hospital after spending time in there. He said at the time that getting sectioned was the best thing that ever happened to him, and it made him come back stronger. He said at the time ” I am not ashamed to say I needed help, there is no harm or shame in saying I need help. He admitted that he also got a lot of strength from looking at his championship belts and doing 4,000 press ups a day.

Bruno was once one of the most loved sportsmen in Britain, appearing in television adverts like no other boxing before him and up till now has done. He always turned up in the ring looking powerful and muscular and is best remembered for his fight with Mike Tyson in the first round, but was too hesitant to follow up and go for the finish. He was eventually stopped in the fifth round in a fight that disheartened the country and many of his supporters who believed he was going to win. He was given a second shot at Tyson’s World title belt a few years later, and was again stopped-this time in the 3rd round.

His depression is first believed to have started after his divorce to his wife, as he battled to come to terms with the marriage break up.

Frank was due to talk about his glittering career at a dinner in Lincoln on Friday night but suddenly pulled out due to his illness. David Haye is now set to host the event.
