EUBANK V BENN III WILL BREAK RECORDS WHEN IT HAPPENS

BY ERIC KING

Eubank v Benn III will break records if it ever happens in the future. That possibility was raised today by Chris Eubank’s estranged son, Nathaniel Wilson.

Wilson’s call for a blockbuster fight with  Nigel Benn’s son, Connor Benn is both funny and interesting. He says it can be billed Eubank vs Benn III.

Nathanael Wilson does not bear his father’s name because of the strained relationship with Chris Eubank Snr  ultimately caused by the former boxing champion’s split with Nathaniel’s mum and the fact that Eubank reportedly does not support this child financially.

Wilson is a fresh novice like Connor, having had his professional debut in March in which he was victorious. However, Wilson, who bares a strong resemblance to his father, is already looking forward to a sensational clash down the line with new comer, Connor Benn.

RIVALS

Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn were great rivals in the 1990s and clashed in two classic bouts that captured the public’s imagination. Benn lost the first fight, but drew in the second fight- both fights were crackers and had fans on the edge of their seats for every moment of it. Benn, 48, has in the last few months been calling Eubank, 52 for a third showdown worth an estimated £10m, but the latter has not yet responded to the call.

With both their sons following in their father’s footsteps, the media and the public have jointly been fascinated by the coincidence of both fighters in the same era, the only issue being that both are in different weights.

But Wilson is in the same weight as Connor, leaving open the possibility of the clash between the pair down the line. Wilson adopted his mother’s name after his father wanted nothing to do with him. Wilson fights this Saturday

HEADLINER

Wilson told The Sun newspaper : “Eubank vs Benn – that’s how people will bill it, that’s what it is. It’s a big fight, one that could change both of our lives.

“I don’t think his people are idiots, they will know the sort of numbers that fight could do.

“That is potentially a Wembley stadium headliner. He is still young and fresh and making mistakes, getting caught with silly shots, they will have to settle him down.” Such a fight, were it to eventually occur, will capture the imagination of the public, with Eubank senior himself , being inevitably caught up in the national interest it will no doubt generate.

Connor Benn was however unimpressed with Wilson’s public move, and tweeted: “come out of no where, now wants to fight me ??? Guess he has to try and get a name in the industry somehow Baha”
