Donald Trump Has Fantastic Session With Pope Francis

By Aaron Miller-

Pope Francis and President Trump met at Vatican City on Wednesday.

During their meeting,  the pope gifted Trump with his message on climate change, among other topics they discussed. Francis also gave the American president an olive tree, saying ’’you can become an olive tree to make peace’’.

Climate change is not something Trump is bothered about, but the Pope gave the U.S President a copy of his essays on climate change. The pair also discussed terrorism and the radicalization of young people in a meeting on Wednesday when the two leaders met.

The pope and Mr. Trump are far apart when it comes to their philosophies on many aspects of life. However,  they both maintained a composed front for the cameras and the world. At least, they both have one thing in common, and that is religion. They differ on just about most other things. Both men have said unpleasant things about the other, especially during Trump’s campaign trail.

Mr. Trump’s visit followed his trips to Saudi Arabia and Israel, both of which provide some respite to the domestic and controversial issues that have dogged his presidency so far. It would have bene a more relaxing time for him, meeting with leaders who would only be welcoming. Both the Israeli and Saudi Arabia government welcomed Trump well, and his time with the Pope was far from hostile. Reporters present did not know what to expect of two individuals who have previously been uncomplimentary about each other, but they pulled it off without any undesirable incident. Reporters were then asked to leave, leaving The Pope and President Trump alone foe half an hour.

FANTASTIC

Mr. Trump later described the session as “fantastic’’, later writing on twitter, “I leave the Vatican more determined than ever to pursue PEACE in our world.” The Vatican said in a statement that the two discussed the Middle East and “the protection of Christian communities,” as well as “the joint commitment in favour of life, and freedom of worship and conscience” and the Catholic Church’s aid work on behalf of immigrants.
