A cruel gang that attacked and raped a 14 year old girl have been jailed for a total of 16 years for false imprisonment and forcing a child to engage in sexual activity. , Caylene Candy, 18, Chaynne Powell, 18, were all jailed for their part in what was a most horrendous crime against a young girl. A passing motorist took a chance photograph of the abduction which was later used for media appeals and also to nail the evil gang for their atrocious crimes.
The gang were 17 at the time of the attack, and had been drinking, did not know the schoolgirl when they approached her to ask for money.
She was kidnapped and taken to Powell’s flat in High Street, Waltham Cross, where she was subjected to what police described as “cowardly and malicious acts of violence”.
On arrival at Powell’s flat, the girl was asked about her bra size before being forced to strip and touch herself up, whilst parts of her hair were chopped off. With a knife held to her throat, the young teenager was made to shave off her pubic hair whilst they ridiculed her. In a shocking account of evil conduct, the cruel gang proceeded to film the girl’s ordeal and send it round to their friends- two of them being Appiah and 18 year old Sanjay Kaila from Plumstead.

The court heard that the girl was later forced to sit in a freezing cold bath whilst they forced her head under water for 10 seconds on three separate occasions. The evil gang then wrote all over her body and poured salt down her throat. Appiah was foolish enough to tell the court he thought it was a ”bit of fun” when asked why he carried out the attack. He said he thought the girl was the same age as Powell and Candy and was a friend of theirs.
DEGRADATION
Prosecutor Michael Speak, said: “For almost a full day this young girl was subjected to acts of degradation and violence you will find hard to comprehend.
“It began like a street robbery, with Candy and Powell trying to rob her of what she had.”
“They said ‘why don’t you get undressed?’ They asked about her bra size and forced her to take off her clothes after they pointed the knife at her throat.
“They began to film the proceedings.
“They forced her to shave her pubic region and made fun of her saying ‘You are disgusting'”.
TRIBUTE
Hertfordshire Police paid tribute to the victim’s bravery.
Detective Constable Ian Minnis, said: “Without doubt this was a totally unprovoked incident involving a victim who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“Throughout her time in the hands of these wicked women she showed huge courage and fortitude. I’m sure there were times that she feared for her life.
“The sentences reflect the horror of what our victim endured and I hope they mark a turning point in her recovery from what would have been a terrifying ordeal.
“She is a tremendous young woman, who in the case of Appiah had to go into the witness box and re-live her ordeal.
“She did so with great dignity and following the sentencing result I hope she can start to move on with her life.”
Appiah was sentenced to eight and a half years in jail at St Albans Crown Court after being convicted of false imprisonment and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Powell was jailed for seven and a half years in a youth offenders institute.
Candy was sentenced to six years and three months and Kalia five years and six months
When eye of media approached a group of boys in the area some hours after the case to inquire about the mindset that would behave in such manner, one 17 year old said ” that was dark(bad) man, it was dark, but I bet you the girl was feisty(rude) to them. The boys must have approached her like, and maybe asked if she had some money for fags or something like that, and a lot of girls in this ends are feisty like”. Some mans(guys) won’t have it and will go out of their way to humiliate the girl. I myself don’t operate like that, but some mans do. You get girls here who will get personal and start calling people ugly and run down just because they don’t like the guy. Some guys will teach them a lesson”.
Their response was hypothetical, with no evidence this actually was what transpired, but even if such an incident had preceded such barbaric act of wickedness, will the boys not have said this in court? ”Nah, the friend of the first guy responded, they want the girl to feel completely humiliated. You will be surprised, they may even know her from a different situation but she might not remember”. I don’t know of guys that will do something like that for no reason whatsoever. It was wrong what they did, but trust me, she must have provoked them”.
Research on boys who behave like this show that they usually low self, poor academic backgrounds, and come from dysfunctional backgrounds. No normal teenager who is accountable to responsible parents will conduct such despicable act. The crying shame is that many of such thugs come out of jail thinking they deserve a badge of honor, when the reality is that they are merely fools in desperate need of help.
