British Government Under Pressure To Raise Combat Against Coronavirus

By Ben Kerrigan

The UK government is facing growing pressure  to act faster to combat the Coronavirus   after it emerged that too few people have been tested for the disease in recent days.  Whilst U.S President Trump has banned all flights from Europe to the U.S, not only has no similar action been taken by the British government, but people are allowed to enter Britain from high risk countries , they are being trusted to go through the airport, mix with members of the public, and only seek testing when they feel symptoms.

Despite plans for a  Thursday lunchtime meeting of the Cobra emergency committee  to approve a shift from “containment” to “delay”, critics fear not enough is being done to combat the deadly virus which has claimed the lives of of nearly five thousand people world wide and killed eight people in the Uk

Recent news that an Mp tested positive for the Coronavirus and a  paramedic from Hertfordshire has tested positive for coronavirus after treating people , shows just how easy it is for this virus to spread.  Greater risks are facing doctors and nurses who may have to treat more sufferers in the coming weeks and months. Health officials are now urgently trying to find anyone who may have made contact with the East England Ambulance service medic.

Today,  Uk Chancellor, Rushi Sunak (pictured)said the Uk does not need to  follow the footsteps of the U.S. “The evidence here does not support that,” the chancellor said as he played down the chances of the UK replicating Donald Trump’s move to suspend travel from most EU countries for 30 days, which exempts flights from the UK and Ireland are exempt. Economic considerations appears to feature more in decisions than the wider risks to the country.

ROULETTE

Ministers have been accused by professionals of failing to smell the coffee on a serious virus already labelled a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.   The editor of the Lancet medical journal accused Mps of “playing roulette” with people’s lives .  Former regional director of Public Health England labelled  the response from the  British government a “wooden and academic” response to Covid-19. He warned that “we’ve wasted a month when we should have been engaging with the public”. Eight people in the UK have now been killed by the deadly virus.
