Ashley Sixth Form Celebrates Oxford And Cambridge University Offers

Ashton Sixth Form College are celebrating a record number of students who have received offers from the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford.

Ten students who are currently enrolled on the Ashton XL programme have received offers for September 2022, the Darnton Road college has said.

The elite universities consist of the brightest brains in the Uk, and are often have an edge in job interviews and employment opportunities more generally.

Five students from the brilliant college  received offers from the University of Cambridge, and five from the University of Oxford. Each student who received an offer is part of the Ashton XL programme, which works with high-achieving students to support and challenge them, giving them the best possible chance to realize their ambitions. It is the top college in the borough for the fourth year (DfE, 2020)

Ashton XL students are nurtured brilliantly by expert mentors and  supported by a specialist Senior Tutor who is commitment to nourishing their talents and maximizing their potential.  Students in the outstanding college are also given access to unique guest speakers, trips across the country, and more.

Students  primed for Oxford and Cambridge  university in their sights take part in mock interviews, masterclasses and bespoke trips that prepare them for the process.

The  impressive college which was rated outstanding  by Ofsted in all key aspects of  education,  is part of a research being conducted into how some incredibly bright students develop, and the  factors that motivate them.

They were found outstanding in their quality of education, their behaviour and attitudes Outstanding. They were also found outstanding in their Leadership and management Outstanding, education programmes for young people, adult learning programmes , and rovision for learners with high needs

Ashton XL Manager, Damian Windle, said: “This year has set a new college record with 10 students gaining a place at Oxbridge. The students and staff have worked incredibly hard in one of the most challenging and disrupted years of education in living memory. These offers represent their dedication and resilience and showcases everything the XL program has to offer.”

Principal Anton McGrath commented: “We were pleased to see so many of our Oxbridge candidates securing their places at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities this year. Over the last few years, the number of students from Ashton Sixth Form College progressing to these prestigious universities has grown. This is the first year in the college’s history that we have received offer for 10 students. Congratulations to each and every one of them!”

Golden Oxford Offers

Those offered a place at Oxford University sounded excited about the golden opportunity before them. Bobby Doherty, from All Saints Catholic College, who  studies Computer Science, Maths, Further Maths, Physics and the EPQ, was overjoyed after he received an offer to study Physics at the University of Oxford (Trinity).

He told The Eye Of Media.Com he was looking forward to ‘an opportunity of a life time’. He said: ”I am so thrilled at the opportunity of going to study in the best university in the Uk, if not the world.

Emmie Coffey, who studies English Language, English Literature, Spanish, and the EPQ. From St Philip Howard, also received an offer to study Spanish at the University of Oxford (Christ Church).

Hannah Benson studies English Language, History, Law and the EPQ. She was thrilled at her offer to study Law at the University of Oxford (Corpus Christi). Hannah, who studied at St. Thomas More told this publication: ‘I am ecstatic at the opportunity to undertake by graduate degree at the exceptional Oxford University. I really look foreward to it and to meeting people of like mind and ambition”

Rory Tyler, from West Hill School, is studying Biology, Geography, Psychology and the EPQ at Ashton. Rory has received an offer at The University of Oxford to study Geography (Hertford).
