Rap star,Tinie Tempah(pictured) has taken on a new role as ambassador for the British Ambulance. With a presence ranging from commanding festival stages to exploring some of Britain’s most ambitious homes on television, Tinie Tempah has built a career far beyond music.

Now the London-born pass out icon is turning his considerable public profile towards a cause that operates at the sharpest end of emergency medicine.

Tempah being named  ambassador for London’s Air Ambulance Charity, takes on a public-facing role designed to help raise awareness of the organisation, and its life-saving work across the capital.

The appointment comes as the charity promotes its latest fundraising partnership with Omaze, through which supporters can enter a draw to win a London home worth £3.5 million, alongside £250,000 in cash. Crucially, the campaign is also helping fund the charity’s next generation of emergency medical care.

The stakes for London Air Ambulance are measured not in television ratings or chart positions, but in minutes. The charity’s specialist trauma teams are dispatched to London’s most critically injured patients, bringing advanced medical treatment directly to the scene rather than waiting until a patient reaches hospital.

Its doctors and paramedics can perform interventions normally associated with an emergency department while still at the scene of an incident. The organisation says it has treated more than 52,000 patients since its service began, and treated 2,031 patients during 2025.

Its helicopters have an average flight time of 7.5 minutes, while rapid-response cars allow teams to continue operating when helicopters cannot fly. That model — effectively bringing the hospital to the patient — is at the heart of the charity’s appeal.

The current Omaze partnership is helping fund an endovascular cardiac arrest team and rapid-response vehicles. The charity says the new cardiac arrest team will bring hospital-level treatment to patients at the scene and could benefit more than 2,000 Londoners over the next five years.

Dr Anne Weaver, the charity’s medical director, said the partnership would help “transform cardiac arrest care in London and beyond”, allowing more people to return home to their loved ones.

Tempah’s appointment gives that message a familiar London voice.

Born Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, Tempah emerged from south-east London to become one of the defining British rap stars of his generation. His breakthrough came in 2010 with Pass Out, which went straight to number one on the UK Singles Chart. Official Charts now credits him with seven UK number-one singles, alongside 14 Top 10 hits and 22 Top 40 entries.

His arrival at the top of British music was formally recognised at the 2011 BRIT Awards, where he won both British Breakthrough Act , but Tempah’s career has never remained confined to the recording studio.

He has become a familiar face on British television and has developed a parallel career in property and design. Channel 4 describes him as an artist and property developer, while its Extraordinary Extensions series follows homeowners undertaking ambitious architectural projects, with Tempah bringing his own experience of property renovation to the programme.

There is also a distinctly personal connection to the city. Tempah grew up in London and has frequently spoken about how his upbringing shaped his ambitions. His story — from a council-estate childhood to chart success, television and property — has made him one of the capital’s most recognisable cultural figures.

The accomplished artist is also a Dragon on BBC’s Dragon Den series, where his uses his entrepreneurship knowledge to join other dragons in deciding whether to  invest their own money into the businesses of aspiring business men and women.

The rapstar’s involvement offers an opportunity to put the charity’s work in front of audiences who may know the red helicopters over the capital but know less about what happens when they arrive. And what happens on arrival can be extraordinary.

The charity says its advanced trauma team is able to perform procedures including blood transfusions and open-chest surgery at the scene when required.

In 2024, the organisation said its teams had treated more than 2,000 patients in a year and highlighted the specialist interventions that distinguish the service from conventional emergency response.

The fundraising behind that capability has already produced major results. A previous Omaze London House Draw generated a record £4 million donation for London’s Air Ambulance in 2024, helping the charity surpass its £15 million target to replace its ageing helicopters. The new aircraft subsequently entered service, securing the charity’s helicopter operation for the years ahead.

The latest campaign is now looking beyond replacing aircraft and towards expanding what medical teams can do on the ground. The ambassadorial appointment for Tinie adds another chapter to a career that has repeatedly crossed boundaries — music into television, entertainment into property, and now celebrity profile into emergency healthcare fundraising.

In cities where seconds can separate survival from tragedy, his latest role carries a very different kind of headline. The highly valued work of the British Ambulance in rushing to scenes before people pass out, will be far more greatly appreciated now.
