Former England footballer Raheem Sterling has been charged with three offences following a single-vehicle crash on the M3 in Ham-pshire and is due to appear before magistrates next month.
Sterling, 31, was arrested on 28 May after the collision involving his black Lamborghini 4×4 on the southbound carriageway of the M3, close to the Minley Interchange. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the former Premier League forward now faces charges of dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen.

Police said no other vehicles were involved in the incident and that no injuries were reported. Sterling, who is from Berkshire, is scheduled to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on 15 September. The charges come at a difficult period in the former England international’s football career. Sterling is currently without a club after a spell with Dutch side Feyenoord, where he played after ending his association with Chelsea earlier this year.
The forward’s move to Feyenoord followed a turbulent period at Chelsea, where he had been left out of the first-team picture. His contract was terminated in January before he joined the Dutch club, seeking regular first-team football after years at the highest level of the English game.
Sterling, who began his senior career at Liverpool before establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s leading attacking players at Manchester City, later represented Chelsea and Arsenal. He also became a key figure for England, earning widespread recognition during his international career.

His career has included Premier League titles, major domestic honours and prominent appearances for England at international tournaments. At Manchester City, Sterling developed into one of the division’s most prolific forwards, while his performances for England made him a regular presence on the international stage.
The latest legal proceedings are separate from Sterling’s football career, and the charges remain allegations that have yet to be tested in court. His appearance at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on 15 September will mark the next stage of the proceedings arising from the May collision.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.”
The force confirmed that Sterling had been charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen following the collision.
