The former X Factor hopeful who once performed before millions of television viewers has now found herself at the centre of one of Britain’s most high-profile criminal cases after appearing in court accused of murdering a social media influencer outside a fashionable London nightclub. Gabrielle Carrington, 29,(pictured) appeared before the Old Bailey on Monday and formally denied murdering influencer Klaudia Zakrzewska, who died days after she was seriously injured in an alleged collision involving a car outside Soho’s exclusive Inca nightclub in the early hours of 19 April.
Carrington, who rose to prominence as a member of the girl group Miss Dynamix during the 2013 series of The X Factor, entered a not guilty plea to murder during a hearing conducted via videolink from HMP Bronzefield, where she remains in custody awaiting trial. She also denied a second allegation of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to security guard Anoush Chyche, who prosecutors say was seriously injured during the same incident. The defendant was not asked to enter a plea to a separate charge of driving with excess alcohol.

The brief hearing marked another significant stage in a case that has gripped public attention because of the backgrounds of both the defendant and the victim. One was a former television talent show contestant who built a substantial following online after appearing on primetime television. The other was an influencer whose growing presence across social media ended in tragedy after what prosecutors allege unfolded outside one of central London’s best-known nightlife venues. Judge Sarah Whitehouse KC fixed the case for trial at the Old Bailey on 5 January 2027. Two further hearings, on 11 August and 9 October this year, will deal with legal and procedural matters before a jury is sworn in. Although Monday’s hearing lasted only a short time, it formally set the stage for what is expected to become one of next year’s most closely watched criminal trials.
The prosecution alleges that the fatal incident unfolded during the early hours of 19 April outside the Inca nightclub in Soho, a venue popular with celebrities, influencers and late-night revellers. Emergency services were called after reports that a vehicle had struck pedestrians near the entrance to the club. Klaudia Zakrzewska suffered devastating injuries and was taken to hospital, where doctors fought to save her life. Despite intensive treatment, she died several days later. Following her death, prosecutors upgraded the original allegation from attempted murder to murder. The Crown also alleges that security guard Anoush Chyche sustained serious injuries during the same incident, resulting in the additional charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Carrington denies both allegations. No evidence relating to the incident was heard during Monday’s plea hearing, and the circumstances surrounding the collision have yet to be examined before a jury.

Under the criminal justice system in England and Wales, Carrington is presumed innocent unless and until she is proved guilty in court.
The hearing nevertheless represents a dramatic chapter in the life of a woman who first entered the public eye more than a decade ago through one of Britain’s biggest television programmes.
Carrington was part of Miss Dynamix, a girl group that impressed judges and viewers alike during the 2013 series of The X Factor. The trio reached the live stages of the competition, introducing the young singer to a national television audience and opening the door to a career in entertainment.
Although the group did not ultimately win the competition, Carrington retained a public profile and later established herself on social media, where she amassed more than 365,000 Instagram followers.
Her arrest earlier this year immediately generated widespread media coverage, with every subsequent court appearance attracting considerable public interest.
Zakrzewska had also developed a growing online profile through fashion, beauty and lifestyle content. Friends and followers paid tribute following confirmation of her death, remembering her as an ambitious young woman whose life ended suddenly and tragically. Her death transformed what had initially been a serious criminal investigation into a murder inquiry.Monday’s appearance was not the first time Carrington had faced the courts in connection with the case. When she appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court shortly after being charged, photographers captured the moment she formed a heart shape with her hands towards family members and friends seated in the public gallery before she was remanded into custody.
The image was widely reproduced across newspapers and online news sites and quickly became one of the defining photographs associated with the case. Since then, Carrington has remained in custody as prosecutors continue preparing their case ahead of trial. Major criminal prosecutions of this nature routinely require months of preparation. Lawyers on both sides must review extensive evidence before it can be presented to a jury, including witness statements, CCTV footage, forensic material and expert reports. Much of that evidence has yet to be disclosed publicly and will only be tested when witnesses give evidence in court next year. The prosecution will ultimately seek to persuade a jury that the evidence proves the allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
The defence will have the opportunity to challenge every aspect of the prosecution’s case, including witness testimony, forensic conclusions and the interpretation of any digital or video evidence presented during the trial. Because Carrington entered not guilty pleas, the burden of proof remains entirely with the prosecution throughout the proceedings. The hearing also confirmed that the allegation of driving with excess alcohol remains before the courts, although no plea was sought on that count during Monday’s proceedings. Legal experts expect the forthcoming pre-trial hearings to deal with disclosure, legal applications and other procedural matters before the case is ready for a jury. The months ahead are likely to bring another painful wait for the family and friends of Klaudia Zakrzewskafbefore the evidence surrounding her death is finally examined in open court.
