The University of Oxford has entered into an agreement with the government of Balochistan to provide scholarships to students from the region under the Benazir Scholarship Program.
The formal agreement was signed in the presence of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti and global education advocate Malala Yousafzai.
The newly established scholarship program will grant talented students from Balochistan the opportunity to pursue higher education at Oxford University, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious institutions in the world.
The program is designed to enhance access to quality education for the youth of Balochistan, empowering them to reach their full potential.
Chief Minister Bugti expressed pride in facilitating this initiative. “We are proud to provide our students with the opportunity to study at Oxford University, where Benazir Bhutto and other great leaders have studied,” he stated at the signing ceremony. “Education is key to unlocking the potential of our youth, and we are committed to providing them with the best opportunities.”
This development marks another milestone for the current Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government, which continues to work diligently under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Chief Minister Bugti highlighted this achievement as part of the government’s broader efforts to uplift the educational standards in the region and provide pathways for the youth to excel globally.
The Benazir Scholarship Program is named after the late Benazir Bhutto, a former Prime Minister of Pakistan and an Oxford alumna, whose legacy continues to inspire educational initiatives across Pakistan.
T/he program aims to follow in her footsteps by ensuring that the brightest minds from Balochistan have the resources and opportunities to pursue world-class education.
This agreement aligns with similar international scholarship programs, such as the recent scholarships announced for Pakistani students in Turkey, reflecting a growing recognition of the importance of global educational partnerships in fostering academic and professional growth for Pakistani students.
