Renowned television personality Jeremy Clarkson has stirred controversy by criticizing Sir David Attenborough’s storytelling abilities in his latest column.
Clarkson, who is notorious for his outspoken views, took aim at the beloved broadcaster and national treasure, sparking a heated debate among the public and fellow celebrities.
In his column for The Sun, Clarkson expressed his disapproval of the latest series of Planet Earth, a show narrated by Sir David Attenborough. He began his critique by stating, “Like most people, I’ve been glued to the third series of Planet Earth. But unlike most people, I hate it.”
He went on to explain that what irked him the most were the sentences uttered by Attenborough, which he claimed were driving him “insane.”
Clarkson reminisced about a time when Sir Attenborough would provide comprehensive details about the animals he encountered during his documentaries.
These narrations included insights into their habitats, mating behaviors, and more, making it a captivating viewing experience. However, he contended that the latest series primarily focused on the consequences of climate change, offering minimal information about the animals themselves.
Clarkson stated, “Now all we ever get is: ‘Here’s a see-through fish with an orange stomach, and its future is threatened by climate change.’ And then it’s: ‘Here’s something with pointy teeth and soon it will be wiped out by global warming. We know already. So please, in future, tell us about the animals, not the bl***y weather.”
This critique led to a quick response from Chris Packham, another television presenter and naturalist, well-known for his appearances on shows such as Autumnwatch. In a social media post, Packham referenced one of Clarkson’s previous controversies and criticized him, labeling him a “massive cockchafer.”
The clash between the two prominent television personalities has ignited debates over the storytelling style and merits of Sir David Attenborough, widely considered one of Britain’s greatest broadcasters and environmental advocates.
Clarkson was earlier this year embroiled in controversy over an article he wrote about Meghan Markle, leading to press regulator Ipso finding him sexist.
Staunch researchers have for the past few months been gathering information from the public about their views of the controversial journalist and television presenter.
