Chris Eubank Jnr is set to give away £60,000 worth of merchandise to fans after his proposed fight with Conor Benn on Saturday was cancelled.
Last weekend’s eagerly awaited clash between Eubank Jr and Benn was called off on Thursday, following revelation that Benn had tested positive for banned substance clomifene.
Co-promoters Hearn and Kalle Sauerland – as well as both Eubank Jr and Benn – on Wednesday had planned to continue pushing for the fight to go ahead before official confirmation came through that the fight was off
The 33-year-old middleweight was boiling down to a career low of 157lbs for the catchweight clash, before the 26-year-old welterweight was revealed to have failed a doping test.
Eubank Jnr had claimed in the build-up that the drastic weight cut would deplete him to as little as 60 per cent of his usual all-action self.
And that is why he has stuck the specific number on the cost of kit he will hand out to fans at a Soho gym on Tuesday evening.
The fighter, who had vowed to retire in the event he lost to Benn, revealed through a social media video on Saturday that he had stayed within his agonising rehydration clause even with the fight postponed
Hundred of fight fans are expected at the Rathbone Boxing Club as the turn of events has won Eubank Jr legions of new fans.
Eubank and Benn both gave statements at their Wednesday media workouts when promoter Eddie Hearn was still desperately trying to get the fight on.
But, after the British Boxing Board of Control refused to sanction the show on Thursday and the entire event was axed, all parties now have to keep their counsel while the complicated process is followed.
The failed test was conducted by VADA, who the BBBofC do not acknowledge as they have UKAD controlling their anti-doping policing and sentencing.
Sr said: “When I look at the fighter I look at the spirit in the man and Conor, in my view, would have no idea about what would have been happening.
“When I look at Conor Benn, that is a pure young man.
“That boy is a clean man and a clean fighter but he has toddlers looking after him.”
