Solicitor MP Charged With Misconduct Of Misrepresenting Justice

By Eric King-

Convicted MP Fiona Onasanya has been charged with misconduct by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. She is to stand before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal to answer three allegations of misconduct, it was confirmed today.

The Peterborough MP was convicted and jailed in December 2018 on indictment of a single count of doing an act tending and intended to pervert the course of public justice. The MP who pulled off a major surprise by winning her seat in Petersborough with a majority of 607 votes,  colluded with her brother Festus after her car was clocked speeding at 41mph in a 30mph zone in the village of Thorney, near Peterborough.

After complaints that her jail sentence was too lenient, Ms Onasanya lost an appeal against conviction and served 28 days of a three-month prison sentence but continued to sit as an MP and receive her £77,379 salary, despite being expelled from the Labour Party.

Within months of taking her seat, she colluded with her brother Festus after her car was clocked speeding at 41mph in a 30mph zone in the village of Thorney, near Peterborough, her Old Bailey trial was told.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority announced its decision to charge the former commercial property lawyer with failing to uphold the proper administration of justice, failing to act with integrity, and failing to behave in a way that maintains the trust the public places in her and the provision of legal services.
